Profile of a Lane 201-er: Meet the Model
Posted on 02 September 2016
Meet the beautiful, full of life and gusto, Cortney McDougal:
Who is your number one style icon?
Marilyn Monroe for showing women that there’s nothing wrong with wearing tighter, more risqué clothing to flatter their bodies rather than trying to hide and conceal their shape. All hail Marilyn. Present day style icon is Kendell Jenner. She has a really unique vibe that I love.
The olive choker top! I’m a sucker for the choker trend coming back because I’ll forever be a 90’s girl at heart, so I was so excited when I saw that at one of the shoots.
Go-to Coffee Order?
Pink Drink at Starbucks because I feel cool ordering off the secret menu or a caramel macchiato with lots of room left at the top for extra whip cream!
What do you do for a living? (besides modeling beautiful boutique clothing)
I’m a Classified Specialist in Human Resources for Fort Wayne Community Schools by day. I graduated from IPFW with a degree in English with a concentration in writing.
What is your favorite way to relax?
I love to read. Am I the only person left with a library card? I’m also addicted to really shallow reality TV. Can’t stop, won’t stop.
What does style mean to you?
Self-expression. You can tell a lot about someone’s personality by the way they dress. I love when people send me something saying, “this is a Cortney shirt”, or “this looks like you!” It’s usually something ridiculous.
What is most important to you when picking your outfit?
Feeling good. You can’t tell me anything when I’m feelin’ my outfit. Everyone feels better when they like the way they look. Because I’ve been dressing myself for a while now, I know what looks good with my body type which is important. We’re all made so differently so knowing what favors your shape is helpful in feeling good about yourself.
My red oversized flannel from Lane 201. That thing is the bomb! I love how long it is because I can wear it with leggings which I’m a huge fan of or even more amazing- no pants at all! I also tie it around my waist probably 3 days a week to add a little sass to my outfit. I should probably buy another one because I don’t know what I would do if anything ever happened to it.
Your favorite item to splurge on:
Shoes! I can’t walk by a good pair of shoes. I’m so excited that fall is around the corner because boots are my favorite! I talk myself into “needing” a pair of shoes even if I don’t have anything to wear them with.
